For some years now, there is a growing trend towards organic sustainable products using raw materials in all cosmetics. Salixin´s Willow bark extracts fit perfectly into this trend – a natural organic active ingredient.

If there is some area I plan to completely clean up in it´s in my cosmetics and personal care products. I want clean alternatives that does not contain all the shit (parabens, perfume, etc.) that are bad for my body and for the environment.

How do you feel about your personal care products? Is it important for you to “keep it clean” And can you find your way in the jungle?

I have been asked to try out some of Salixin´s products. For the last few months I have used their shampoo, Mouthwash, Silkelotion and Skin gel. Before I get into my experience I want to tell you a bit about this little, pretty amazing, Danish company.
Salixin is a small Danish Company who are devoted to developing and producing effective COSMOS and Vegan certified organic willow bark extract to be used in personal care products. All of their products are based on Danish organic and locally grown Willow bark.
What is Willow bark?
Willow bark (Salix Purpurea) contains a lot of actives and the plant has been used for thousands of years as a plant medicine treating headaches and other ailments due to it´s aspririn-like properties, as well as antiseptic. Willow bark is a cleansing and anti-inflammatory ingredient., and the extract is used in cosmetics and personal care products for its astringent, anti-inflammatory, soothing and conditioning properties.

The products:
There is so much heart and knowledge behind these products. The people behind Salixin has been working with willow more than 20 years, where they have gathered and examined more than 100 different sorts. During the last 10 years Salixin have even been working closely together with several scientists. Salixin even sells their Willow bark extract to other leading companies with in the industry of Organic cosmetics and food supplements.
My overall impression of this product is pretty good.  I love that this company puts so much effort and love into one single ingredient that they believe in. I have felt the results on my body and I really like Salixin´s products
Shampoo. I like what this shampoo does to my hair. Normally this would be best for people with greasy hair or ezema or dandruff. Sometimes, when im under a lot of stress I do have some dandruff, but nothing special. What I do find with this Shampoo is that both my hair and my scalp feels good and clean after using it, and it leaves my hair shiny. I also feel that I don´t have to wash my hair as often as with my ordinary shampoo. And as a last point it smells good. It has a light and natural smell of willow.
Mouthwash. I must admit that this one took some getting used to! Since it´s made from natural ingredients it has a different taste. But now, I love it. I don´t at all like to use too much flour, but I have not been able to lose my normal flour toothpaste just yet. The Salixin Mouthwash does not taste so artificial as other mouthwashes, but it does the job. Recently I had a toothbrush injury from using a too hard toothbrush. Using the Mouthwash has helped calm down the area around the tooth.
Silklotion: This lotion is pretty fat and it´s more than good for my dry winter hands and feet. It has a light and natural smell of Willow, which works very well for me.
SkinGel – The SkinGel is probably Salixins wonder product. –And the only product I have not tested yet. The most reviews I have read from Salixin has been from the skin gel. For people who have eczema, acne or psoriasis this is supposed to work wonders.
All in all: These products are pretty awesome but I especially like the Silkelotion for helping one of my big problem areas.
